Volunteering

We need volunteers! We are currently looking for volunteers with experience in fundraising, volunteer counsellors, administrative and other volunteers with a range of skills. If you are able to offer your time and skills please contact us for further information.

WHAC is a voluntary organisation, run by women for women. Volunteers are a very important valuable, integral part of WHAC. They provide most of WHAC's service delivery and come from all walks of life.

They are supported by experienced paid staff who have overall responsibility for the day to day running of the Centre. In 2010-11 alone, 23 volunteers did over 1,765 hours of work, ranging from counselling, support with debt advice, welcoming people to the Centre, dealing with enquiries, 1-1 support for clients, office duties or being on our Board of Trustees.

Volunteering can be incredibly rewarding on many levels, both personally and professionally, "Being a volunteer at WHAC has helped me develop as a counsellor. I have always felt supported and encouraged. WHAC has always been a safe place to be" WHAC Volunteer Counsellor

Our volunteers are highly valued and highly supported; our volunteer counsellor training course has been accredited by the NCFE (Northern Council for Further Education) and in the last 10 years more than 100 of our volunteers have gained accredited qualifications, from City and Guilds in IT to MScs in Counselling.

We offer volunteers:

  • A friendly supportive environment
  • Opportunity to learn new skills and develop existing ones
  • Accredited training and access to other programmes
  • The chance to meet like-minded women
  • Travel expenses
  • Some childcare costs
